It was a gloomy wet morning as residents braved the rain on their way to the community room. They were greeted with the aromas of fresh hot brewing coffee and apple ciders to stir up the warmth within. As the fireplace crackled, each lady took her seat in anticipation of creation. Then, the fun began!

We made hats decorated with all sorts of flowers, different ribbons, and feathers. Each lady created a unique masterpiece, laced through with her own individual styles and personality. Sue and Bonni manned the hot glue gun table and, after a few singed fingers, got into a rhythm of sealing the wearable works of art.

Barbara, Lila, and Dorothy styled their hats with beautiful classic patterns. Whereas, Mae, Mikki, and Elvira set their minds to “color outside the lines” with their own unique pieces.

Following the flurry of flowers, we set our hands to a more ghoulish project. Each person decorated an empty soup can with a Halloween scene, which could be used as a candy holder, pencil holder, or a drip can for under the car. With precise gluing abilities, Shirley, Angie, Mary, and Helen arranged black cats, a friendly ghost, some bats, and pumpkins around on a midnight background to create a cute keepsake. At that time, all our crafty comrades took an hour break for lunch in which time there was a monstrous thunderstorm.

Then, cautiously through the wind and rain, Louise and Rosemarie, Mikki, and Aida bravely came back to finish up a cute scarecrow note holder. Louise made an adorable pair of dancing scarecrows while Mikki and Aida skillfully finished theirs and proceeded to make more!
It was a good time to relax and enjoy the fellowship of one another’s company and to make some tangible memories of our time together.
