There was a marvelous turnout for our first Super Bingo Tournament of the New Year. Seventeen Bingo-ettes came out to try their luck against that fateful spinning cage with its colorful spheres but, once again, only four walked away victors.

Isabel nabbed the first game’s pot by putting up those four corners fast. Silently and yet defiantly, Pauline won the second round by putting all those “odd balls” in their place, the bingo balls, that is. We took a small break to settle the nerves and munch on some snacks before diving head-in to the last two games.

Refreshed from halftime, it was Barbara who closed the third round by letting her light shine on the starburst. Finally, the moment everyone was waiting for and yet somehow dreading had arrived. With a starting pot of $20.00 and an addition of the extra $12.75 from dues, this was a Blackout pot to be taken seriously.

Like the tournament before this one, nobody seemed to move anything- except for a quick motion of the finger to cover a space. As the cage slowly emptied its contents, the stress grew as ladies laughed with uncertainty. At that moment, an enthusiastic “BINGO!!!” shattered the stillness. It was Lila and she walked away that day delighted and just a bit richer.
